WVC Foundation presents the Piatigorsky Foundation Concert Nov. 16

The public is invited to the Piatigorsky Foundation Concert, presented by the Wenatchee Valley College Foundation, on Friday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in the new WVC Music and Art Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. for light appetizers and beverages. This event is sponsored by Wilfred and Kathy Woods.

This one-hour live concert will feature Richard Dowling on piano and Linda Rosenthal on violin. Through their musical performance and comprehensive commentaries, the audience will gain an unparalleled understanding of classical music pieces and their composers.

The audience will also have the opportunity to meet the artists after the concert.

The Piatigorsky Foundation was established by Evan Drachman in 1990 in honor of his grandfather, Gregor Piatigorsky, who believed in the healing power and inspiration of classical music. The Piatigorsky Foundation is committed to carrying on Piatigorsky’s mission by evoking cultural curiosity through educational and accessible live performances.

Violinist Linda Rosenthal performs throughout North America, Europe and Asia in recitals, as a soloist with an orchestra and as a chamber musician. She is founder and artistic director of Juneau Jazz & Classics, and of the Lake Placid Chamber Music Seminar in New York. She is a professor of music at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, where she makes her home. She has released four solo CDs: Three American Sonatas, featuring the works of Copland, Piston and Porter; Favorite Violin Encores; Fiddle de Bop, a collection of Americana music for violin and piano; and Glacier Blue, a concerto for violin and jazz big band. Rosenthal plays on a violin made in Turin, Italy, in 1772 by J.B. Guadagnini.

Pianist Richard Dowling appears regularly across the United States in solo recitals and concerts with orchestras. He has also performed in the Far East, Australia, Africa and Europe. Dowling released Sweet and Low-Down in 2001, a CD containing virtually all of the solo piano works by George Gershwin. On the World’s Greatest Rags CD, he performs a collection of his favorite American ragtime piano repertoire. He has also recorded two CDs of Chopin, three of cello and piano works with cellist Evan Drachman, and a three-CD set of pop songs called A Perfect Moment. His most recent recording, Music of Old New York, features songs and piano rags inspired by the Big Apple at the turn of the century.
